LOGAN will soon be home to its first five-star resort.
Construction of the hotel, which is a multi-million dollar upgrade of the McNevins Logan Park Motel at Loganholme, is expected to be complete about mid-2014.
The McNevins Ferryman's Resort will feature a large swimming pool with spa area, more than 50 new rooms, a fine-dining restaurant, underground parking, function facilities and more.
Resort manager Greg O'Leary said the hotel, located on the Pacific Highway, would also have a special group accommodation quarters which could sleep up to 35 people.
"This is a very unique feature and we don't believe any other five-star hotel has this," he said.
"We decided to have this for large sporting groups or families that want to stay in luxury accommodation but can't afford it."
Mr O'Leary said growing demand for accommodation in Logan prompted the motel's luxury upgrade.
"We are constantly fully booked," he said.
"We sometimes have to turn away about 20 people a night and pass them on to other motels."
Situated half way between the Gold Coast and Brisbane, Mr O'Leary said location was the hotel's major drawcard.
"This is a half way point for our corporate clients who need to work in both Brisbane and Gold Coast," he said.
"It is also more affordable for families to stay in Logan."
Fellow manager Michelle Jones said the accommodation would remain affordable.
"We are not naive," Ms Jones said.
"We know we can't charge five-star prices in Logan like hotels do in Sydney, Brisbane and the Gold Coast."
Mayor Pam Parker said the hotel would be a catalyst of Logan's future tourism precinct, along with the relocation of Alma Park Zoo which is expected to open next door in 2014.
"McNevins recognises the amazing potential of the corridor they are in," she said.
Member for Forde Bert van Manen said Logan had high potential for tourism growth.
"There are so many opportunities here," he said.
"It's about everyone working together to achieve growth.
"However governments can't keep putting money in, a lot of this growth will need to be driven by the private sector."
Shadow Minister for Tourism Bob Baldwin, who recently toured Logan to gauge the city's tourism potential, agreed.
"Logan has natural assets such as open spaces and parklands," he said.
"If we look at our emerging markets like tourists from China - they want clean, green economies."
