TWEED flower growers are ramping up for one of the busiest days of the year this Sunday.

Crystal Creek Flowers owner Janelle Wright said chrysanthemums were the biggest sellers from the company's roadside flower business leading up to Mother's Day.

"It's a traditional Mother's Day flower," Mrs Wright said

"It's the busiest time of the year. We plant about 500 seedlings a week.

"We planted in the second week of January to have the flowers ready for Mother's Day."

Although Mrs Wright sells a lot of chrysanthemums her favourite flower is the rose although the flower farmer does not grow any on the two-acre property.

"We offer about 17 varieties of flowers and we trial new ones as well," she said.

"The hardest for us to grow are the lilies."

Many Tweed residents would see Mrs Wright's flower shop on the roadside of Tweed Valley Way.

"It's my business and my sole income," Ms Wright said.

"It's a lot of work and can be really challenging."

Ms Wright always grew vegetables but when the family business was passed to her she moved her focus to flowers.
