NATHAN Daley has proof hiring people with disabilities is goodbusiness.

The Snap Fitness franchisee has hired two employees with disabilities to work at his Browns Plains and Forest Lake gyms.

Tyler Haigh, 21, and Daniel Wright, 19, have worked for him for the past few months.

Mr Daley said he considered employing the boys after he was approached by Job Placement - a not-for-profit organisation whichhelps place people with barriers into open employment.

"Daniel was a member of my Browns Plains gym at the time and I didn't hesitate to give him a chance," he said.

After watching Mr Wright's smooth transition into the job, Mr Daley took on Mr Haigh.

"They're both doing really well," he said.

"They are improving all the time.

"I may have started a pattern in hiring them for other Snap Fitness gyms across Australia to follow."

Mr Wright agreed his new job gave him a new sense of purpose and enjoyment.

"I work three hours a day, three days a week," he said.

"I clean the bathrooms, clean the exercise equipment and do extra things on the side."

Job Placement employment coordinator Russell Keay encouraged more Logan businesses to embrace employees with disabilities.

"Employing a person with a disability is not something to be feared but to be embraced for many reasons," he said.

"These people's lives are literally being changed and new opportunities are being created for them and in some cases it is the reason why they get up in the morning.

"It gives them a sense of purpose and community inclusion to work in open employment.

"It also creates a new tolerance, level of understanding and acceptance in the workplace from existing staff that may have had preconceived ideas that it may be too difficult to work with people with disabilities or barriers."
