DISTURBING comments posted on Facebook this year by police shooting victim Ryan Pringle suggest the 33-year-old may have been battling significant psychological issues before he died.

The son of rugby league player Neil Pringle was gunned down by police after he allegedly threatened a group of festival goers with a knife and crossbow near Tenterfield on the weekend.

Pringle was engaged and had a young son.

The "about me" section of his Facebook profile reads: "Ryan is lost in a forever changing world. Need internel (sic) gps to get to hell so i (sic) can fight the devil and save my trapped friends and family!"

He also expressed frustration about being distant from his son.

The last post made before his death gives an insight into why he may have been in rural NSW armed with weapons such as a crossbow and knife.

It reads: "Going hunting - be back when I have enough food for winter."

Pringle's friends and family posted messages of sympathy on his profile and the page belonging to his fiancée Monique Willman.
