Feeding Logan's needy

THOUSANDS of people are expected to line the street as Tribe of Judah holds its annual free food giveaway.

This weekend parents who are struggling to feed their family can head down to the church for a helping hand.

It is expected to be the organisation's biggest ever food giveaway, and will undoubtedly help out Logan families in need.

Bread, fresh fruit and vegetables, as well as canned and frozen items will all be available on the day, and everything will be free.

Tribe of Judah's Terry Walker said the church had been collecting and storing items for this weekend's giveaway since January.

"We will have up to 100 pallets of items, which is around 80 tonnes of food," he said.

"We are expecting thousands of people to come down and line up.

"There will be plenty for everyone, so nobody will miss out."

Mr Walker said as food prices continued to rise, more people were seeking help from his organisation to put food on the table.

"Our focus has always been on giving great food, but as the living costs have gone up for every family, we know this one might mean the most," he said.

"We have previously seen up to 6000 people attend our giveaways, and we are expecting this year's crowd to have increased.

"So we have gathered up the best of the best foods to put a smile back on the faces of the people in our community."

In addition to the free giveaway, residents will also be able to purchase hot food at the organisations new cafe for a cheaper price.

The Tribe of Judah food giveaway will be held on Saturday, July 14, at the Tribe of Judah Church, located at 16 Queens Rd, Kingston.
