Hawks up to fourth

HAWTHORN has moved into equal fourth spot on the AFL ladder after putting on a clinic in the second half against Brisbane on a wet afternoon at the MCG.

The Lions led by seven points at the first change after kicking six goals from just 10 entries inside their 50m zone, and were still in touch at half-time when they trailed by 10 points.

But despite missing countless easy shots at goal, the Hawks surged away after the main break to win by 65 points, 19.21 (135) to 11.4 (70).

Lance Franklin made a mockery of the wet conditions to boot five goals, taking his career tally to 494.

Hawthorn's pressure was again relentless, racking up 96 tackles, many of them resulting in free kicks or turnovers.
Shaun Burgoyne was outstanding in defence while Sam Mitchell, Liam Shiels, Matt Suckling and Shane Savage knocked up getting possessions through the midfield.

Lions youngster Dayne Zorko continued his spectacular form since coming into the side, accumulating 24 possessions, seven tackles and three goals.
