LES "Lock N Load" Sherrington has taken a huge leap into the international boxing spotlight with his vacant WBO Asia Pacific middleweight title win in Townsville last night.

The Toowoomba-trained fighter claimed the belt after stopping Filipino Randy Suico for a technical knockout victory in the eighth round of their 12-round bout.

Sherrington latest victory takes his professional career record to 30 wins - with 18 coming by knockout - and six losses.

The win should also secure the WBF World Middleweight champion a crucial top-10 WBO ranking.

Sherrington and his trainer Brendon Smith are likely to chase another international match-up early next year for the 30-year-old as they build towards a possible career switch to the lucrative USA boxing stage.
