ALARMING statistics released by Queensland Health have found a number of Queenslanders are tipping the scales at unhealthy weights.

The report, which was delivered by Dr Jeanette Young, found more than two million Queensland adults are now considered overweight or obese.

In addition, a staggering 26% of children aged between five and 17 are also considered overweight.

Queensland's Cancer Council executive manager of public health Louise Baldwin said the number of people living unhealthy lifestyles was a big contributor to the report findings.

"The report shows more Queenslanders are increasing their physical activity levels, but ground isn't being made in the area of overall balanced nutrition," Ms Baldwin said.

"Only 7% of adults are consuming the recommended amount of fruit and vegetables daily, and one in eight lead sedentary lifestyles for more than seven hours every day."

In a bid to help reverse these frightening statistics, a group of Logan men and women are taking positive steps to change their lifestyle and become healthier.

With the help from Geoff and Margaret Cuylenburg, who run the Rochedale Weight loss Challenge, hundreds of people are taking back control of their lives by shedding those unwanted kilos.

Letita Elliot and Louise Hert are both involved in the weight loss challenge and have recorded outstanding results.

Mrs Elliot, who has completed two challenges, has lost more than 17kg while Mrs Hert, who has just begun, has lost more than two.

"In today's busy lifestyle, it is so easy for people to just grab takeaway food, but we want to let people know it's not too hard to cook healthy meals at home," Mrs Hert said.

If you would like to find out more information about the Rochedale Weight loss Challenge, phone Margaret on 0422445130.
