REPRESENTING your country in any sport is one of the highest achievements any sports star could ever dream of.

And for two John Paul College students, their dreams are only just beginning.

Both Briony Payne, 16, and Courtney Capper, 17, have been selected into the Australian under 17's netball squad which will travel to Canberra to compete this week.

Both of the girls had to undertake a gruelling training session to be accepted into the squad, with only two girls from each state being chosen.

Having both played for a number of years, the girls said they were still in shock about making the squad.

"It still hasn't hit me, and probably wont until we are down in Canberra," Miss Payne said.

"I found out I was in the squad I was at school and I got a call from Netball Australia and I just couldn't believe it."

Miss Capper also said the experience didn't feel real yet.

"I was so shocked and surprised when I was called up," Miss Capper said.

"But I know what I have to do and that's keep on training."

The girls will brave the cold down in Canberra for four days as they compete and partake in training sessions with their new team members.
