Logan youth charged over bashing
POLICE have charged a 15-year-old Loganlea youth with armed robbery, break and enter, stealing and two counts of serious assault following a violent home invasion at Inala last Monday night.
A 93-year-old man was allegedly struck in face with the butt of a knife while he and his wife were in bed when two people gained entry into the Hickory St residence about 9.30pm.
The intruders gained access to the house through the bathroom window, the only window in the home without security bars, and allegedly took a knife from the kitchen.
Harold Dickson was listening to the Broncos game on a clock radio as his wife Veronica, 91, slept.
It was alleged the offenders stole the clock radio and a pre-paid mobile phone before fleeing the scene.
Mr Dickson spent the night at Princess Alexandra Hospital where he received two stitches above his left eyebrow.
His wife was not physically injured during the incident.
The couple's son Dan Dickson said his parents had lived in the home for 50 years and had not lost their independence after the ordeal.
"They will stay here, they're pretty strong characters," he said.
He described his father as a "Banjo Patterson type of bloke," who was a former shearer and Council grader driver.
The couple have been married for more than 70 years and have five children, nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Police said the youth charged would be dealt with under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act.
Investigations are continuing.
