McEwan rolled into home town
THE final round of the 2012 Champion System Summer Series (CSSS) was bolstered by cycling superstar power on Saturday, February 18.
Former Logan resident and three-time Tour de France green jersey winner Robbie McEwen lined up in the final day of the competition at Berrinba.
He joined almost 1500 riders to compete in the popular criterium event, which is hosted by Logan Cycle Club.
The Summer Series is one of the biggest annual events on the cycling calendar and attracts junior and senior riders across south-east Queensland and northern New South Wales.
While McEwen's appearance was a huge coup for the series, competitors had no time to stargaze with the CSSS heating up in its final races.
After three days of racing, Peter Thompson claimed the top honour to make it back-to-back overall elite men's A grade series and sprinters jersey wins.
Logan Cycle Club has plenty to look forward to with bright young stars Lauren Hinwood and Jackson Carman securing promising results.
Hinwood overcame a crash in the second round to finish overall runner-up in the under-17 women's event, while Carman took fourth place in the competitive under-17 men's group.
McEwen was not the only elite cyclist to lend his support with Men's Team Pursuit Commonwealth Games gold medallist and Australian GreenEdge member Michael Hepburn competing in the opening day of the series.
