POLICE have released more details about the man whose decayed remains were found in a bag at Tumbulgum on Saturday night.
The man is described as about 163cm tall with a long grey pony tail roughly 150mm long.
He is also believed to be between 50-70 years old.
Police are now appealing to the public in an effort to help identify the man.
A police spokeswoman said police were cross referencing with missing person reports as standard procedure.
On Monday My Daily News broke the story of how a fisherman located a bag on the bank of the Tweed River near Dulguigan Rd containing human remains.
Police were called to the scene and conducted an inspection of the bag confirming it contained human remains.
The bag and remains were taken to the morgue.
Detectives from Tweed/Byron Local Area Command, with the assistance of the State Crime Command's Homicide Squad, are continuing investigations into the matter.
They are appealing to anyone who may know the identity of the man to contact them.
