STUDENTS from Saint Francis College in Crestmead are helping to make their school a little brighter by painting large Aboriginal artworks to be displayed throughout the school.

With a little help from well-known indigenous artist Arthur Conlon, the murals feature traditional Aboriginal dot patterns and native animals.

Mr Conlon, who visited the school for a week, said he had a great time teaching the students about his culture.

"I visited the school where I taught Aboriginal art workshops with 75 to 100 kids per session," he said.

"I showed the kids an art demonstration and then told them a little bit about myself as an Aboriginal artist.

"I did these demonstrations for all the kids from Prep right up to Year 12."

Mr Conlon said he would then start working on a picture with the students, going through it step-by-step.

"These artworks will then be hung throughout the school," he said.

Year 11 student Lyndelle Brooks said she had learnt a lot about the Aboriginal culture from Mr Conlon.

"We learnt many new techniques, including mixing colours that really adds to the pictures," she said.

"Mr Conlon was a great teacher and made painting look easy, so it was a lot of fun."
