HUNDREDS of Logan residents will have a brighter Christmas this year thanks to the generosity of those who donated food and toys as part of the Reporter's Adopt-A-Family Appeal.

Held in conjunction with five local community groups, we were able to put food on the table and presents under the tree for 87 struggling families.

One of the community groups involved were the Logan East Community Neighbourhood Association (LECNA) at Springwood.

LECNA community development officer Colleen Benson said she was overwhelmed with the support from the community.

"It is fantastic to see how people open up their hearts to help those in their communities who are in desperate need," she said.

"Once again, the people of Logan have been so generous throughout this year's appeal.

"I know the families are going to be so appreciative."

In addition to receiving washing baskets and boxes of food and toys, Mrs Benson said some residents even decided to treat families to a special Christmas lunch.

"We had one gentleman who gave vouchers to two families to have lunch at Sizzler on Christmas Day," she said.

"He also donated food and toys to these two families.

"They were stoked when we told them."

Collecting his hamper last Friday morning, one gentleman, who wanted to be known only as Barry, said he was very grateful for everything he had received.

"It has been a really difficult year," he said.

"Families have been finding it so hard to pay for every day living things like water and electricity.

"It is so good to know that when you do have hard times, there will always be people out there to help you.

"Thankyou to The Reporter, LECNA and everyone who donated food and presents to help us."
