Thieves target Greenbank newsagency once again

FOR the fourth time this year staff members from the Greenbank Golden Casket Newsagency were forced to clean up smashed glass and damaged stock, after their store was again the target of thieves.

Just before midnight on Monday, November 5, a four wheel drive allegedly smashed into the Sheppards Dr business causing substantial damage in the ram-raid style attack.

Once inside the store, the thieves allegedly stole a small amount of cigarettes and lighters before fleeing in the same vehicle.

Greenbank Golden Casket Newsagency employee Jill Breedon said the attack was seen by a passing truck driver.

"A truck driver going past saw them here and called the police," she said.

"Then we found out the alarm had gone off and came down immediately."

When they arrived at the store, Ms Breedon said it was clear that this was the worst attack they had faced this year.

"This is the fourth time we have been targeted, but this break-and-enter was probably the worst," she said.

"This was the first time we had been ram-raided.

"All the other times the thieves had broken windows to get in.

"When we arrived after the alarm went off we found a big mess.

"There was glass and stock everywhere."

Ms Breedon said while in the store, the thieves also broke their security television, threw papers around the store and smashed their lollies and drinks.

She expected the damage bill to be close to $20,000.

"The thieves brought their car up the footpath and smashed through the door, so we have to get the glass replaced," Ms Beedon said.

"They also damaged our drink fridges, so we may have to replace them as well.

"Not to mention ordering all new stock."

Ms Breedon hoped the culprits responsible would be caught soon.

"Hopefully the police can catch who did this sooner rather than later," she said.

In the mean time, the store has continued to operate as usual.
