TOURISM mogul Graham Turner will be at Rosewood tomorrow to add weight to the community's growing fight against mining.

Mr Turner is heading a legal battle against coal projects at Ebenezer and west through Grandchester, home to his Spicers Hidden Vale resort.

He will be joining in on a community engagement day sponsored by Bridging the Divide and Lock the Gate and assisted by the Rosewood District Protection Organisation (RDPO). Visitors from Brisbane, Oakey, the Scenic Rim and northern New South Wales are expected to attend.

Guests will be invited to design a "mining free" community campaign for south-east Queensland and hear about the success of the Northern Rivers CSG Free Communities campaign.

Co-organiser Cassie McMahon said the day would include a bus tour of the Rosewood region from 9.30am-noon.

A community barbecue lunch will be provided by Rosewood Uniting Church parish and RDPO at Johnston Park, John St.

Bridging the Divide is a city-country communication and support network, involving health and social justice issues.

Based in Brisbane, with members and friends from all over Australia, its activities include running bus tours for folks in the city to learn about rural life and the impacts of coal and coal seam gas in rural communities and co-ordinating scientific research and other information, in response to requests for help from rural friends and colleagues.

Principal events will include:

Assemble Johnson Park, John St Rosewood about 9am.

Bus tour of current and proposed mining areas in the Rosewood region departs 9.30am and returns about 12pm.

Sausage sizzle lunch in park: 12pm to 1pm.

Workshop to inform the community how to take action to preserve agricultural, environmental, scenic, heritage, health, flora and fauna assets from open cut and coal seam gas mining developments - Rosewood Uniting Church Hall 1pm - 5pm.

Donation of $20 to cover costs.

For more information contact Cassie McMahon on 0427 166 166 or Annette Hutchins on 0406 654 626.
