WENDY Barnes is using her personal journey with cancer to help find a cure for others.
The Mooloolaba resident, a breast cancer survivor, is training for the 200km Rio Tinto Ride to Conquer Cancer on August 18 and 19.
The ride starts at the University of Queensland campus in Brisbane, goes through Ipswich, out to Wivenhoe Dam and back the following day.
Wendy has had a lumpectomy - the removal of the lymph nodes in her left arm - six cycles of chemotherapy and six weeks of radiation.
It has been nearly four years since the diagnosis but with the help of her husband Trevor and children, Hayley, 19, Tayla, 17 and Riley, 12, Wendy said she felt positive the cancer would not come back.
"To me it's all gone, it will never come back," she said.
"It's been an amazing journey and I feel like I've become a better person and I'm living life and doing more challenges.
"This year I needed a challenge and my daughter told me about the (Rio Tinto) ride."
But to participate in the ride, Wendy needs to raise $2500.
She raised $2300 from a barefoot bowls night, through friends in South Australia and by placing collection tins in shops.
Wendy is keen to beat her original target and raise $3500.
She is hosting a Pink 'N' Bling fundraiser at the Kawana Waters Hotel on Saturday.
"It's a night for the ladies, so they'll be coming in pink and bling," Wendy said.
Auction items include a night at Twin Waters Resort, Maroochy RSL vouchers, home appliances, travel bags, hair products and a two-hour ride in a pink stretch Hummer with champagne and chocolates, valued at $1200.
