Council chaos

COUNCIL is wasting time and money trying to rein in unruly councillors.

While it has been a long time since Logan City Council was united, Mayor Pam Parker vowed to bring councillors together when she took over the administration 14 months ago.

But she did not count on the antics of one councillor, Sean Black, whose behaviour, other councillors are saying is now costing them time and money.

Last week's council meeting at Flagstone State Community College was no different after Cr Black alleged he was dumped from the Audit Committee.

Addressing the media immediately after the meeting, an angry Cr Black said he was recommended to be on the committee, but at the last minute his nomination was pulled.

“This has been raised because I ask the hard questions,” he said.

Cr Black said questions he raised had gotten him the 'royal boot' off the Audit Committee.

“It was sprung on me at the last minute, and was a vote of no confidence.”

But councillors Luke Smith, Cherie Daley and Russell Lutton have warned the wayward councillor to stop with his tantrums.

“What you saw was an outburst of a childish person who, when he doesn't get his own way, throws tantrums,” Cr Smith told media.

“We've had enough, we've put up with it for 14 months.

“I'm calling on him to stop.”

Cr Lutton said the workshops to try and team build, two or three weeks ago, appeared to have gotten the council nowhere.

“Believe me the majority put effort into it,” he said.

“We honestly thought there might have been some movement.”

While Cr Smith said there was nothing council could do to stop Cr Black's actions, other than holding him accountable to the code of conduct, he hoped the community stood up and said they didn't want a representative like this.

“The ramifications of his actions of the past 14 months has been countless meetings,” he said.

Cr Lutton said the new council of an expanded Logan had enough challenges in bringing the city together and didn't need immaturity from councillors.

'We've had enough, we've put up with it for 14 months.'
