Logan City Councillor Lisa Bradley
ENERGEX plans to extend power lines from Loganlea to Jimboomba along the Logan River has been met with anger by Logan City councillors and local residents.
Councillor Lisa Bradley said the Energex presentation to Logan City Council on June 18, showcased a number of options for the extension of the power lines.
One of these options was a nine kilometre track along the Logan River, with seven crossings included.
While there were other options presented, council is fearful this option could be the cheapest and the one the company runs with.
“I kayak along the river, and for years I've been telling people there's so much along the river, so much potential,” Cr Bradley said.
“I understand there's a need for the power lines to be extended, if you have growth you need power.
“I will fight to say no to this.”
Cr Bradley said there was a lot that could be done along the river.
“It needs to be protected,” she said.
“The visual amenity would be disgusting and this wouldn't even be contemplated along the Brisbane River.”
Mayor Pam Parker backed up Cr Bradley at last week's council meeting, saying in the future there could be a Southbank-like feature on the Logan River, and having power lines along there would rule this option out.
Councillor Phil Pidgeon, whose division the power lines would run through, said he had been pushing the issue heavily.
“I managed to get the numbers in council to support a motion that we don't support the power lines,” he said.
“I'm actively supporting the residents.”
Logan City Council will lodge their objection with Energex.
