A STUDENT from Flagstone State Community College has been awarded the prestigious Pierre de Coubertin award.
Year 11 student, Stephanie Collins, was presented with the award on Saturday at a ceremony held at the Brisbane Convention Centre at Southbank.
The award emphasises participation and commendable sporting behaviour consistent with the Olympic movement.
Miss Collins said she was really excited to win the award.
“I didn't think I would win,” she said.
“I was sent out an invitation (to the ceremony) which said' you have won'.
“When I read it, I was like 'oh my God'.”
The aspiring student who wants to be a surgeon said they had to be really involved in sport and write a 250 word essay about the Olympic movement to be nominated for the award.
“I do physical education at school as well as in inter-school sport and all the sport carnivals,” she said.
This was the second time a Flagstone State Community College student has won the prestigious award.
