Cutters need luck

BEENLEIGH/Logan looks certain to miss the Brisbane First Grade Cricket Competition finals with University of Queensland (UQ) in pole position to seal the final semi-final spot.

The Cutters trialled UQ by a fraction going into the final regular season round of the 2009/2010 campaign.

But their playoff hopes are all but crushed with UQ bowling Wynnum-Manly out for a paltry total of 93 and in-reply the students rattled up 0-43 to require just 51 runs this Saturday to post first innings points.

Ironically UQ were the same team to keep the Cutters out of last season’s finals.

To avoid history repeating itself, the Cutters would need an almost impossible equation to occur.

Wynnum-Manly would either have to bowl out UQ for less than 93 runs or capture an unlikely outright win.

But even if one of those two scenarios eventuate, the Cutters would still need to win their match against Sandgate-Redcliffe, which they did no favours in helping by being bowled out for 153 at Sandgate on Saturday.

Clinton Perren (39) and Daniel Payne (38) both made starts for the visitors without being able to go onto a big score.
