Demons’ impressive trial form has Muir confident

THE suburban rugby league scene kicks off this weekend, with a host of local teams hoping to get off to a winning start during the first round of the Brisbane Second Division Rugby League season.

After displaying impressive form during the trials, Waterford will venture into their first campaign in the Premier Grade competition on a high.

The Demons scored back-to-back wins over fellow top-flight sides, Redlands and Wynnum Manly Juniors, in the lead up to their first round encounter against Carina at Noffke Farm Park this Saturday.

Demons coach, Kris Muir is confident about a good result but said his troops would need to work hard to earn it.

“Carina, they’re going to be a good bench mark and our players are very aware of Carina’s solid reputation in Premier Grade,” he said.

“While the weekend game against Wynnum didn’t suit us with the rain, the guys grinded out a very good win, so hopefully we can take our solid trial form into the first game.”

Other local teams in action this weekend include Southside 3 clubs, Greenbank, Logan Wanderers, Beenleigh Brothers and Waterford’s second open men’s team.

In Southside 4, seven of the 11 teams in the competition are from Logan (Logan City Chiefs, Logan Wanderers, Slacks Creek, Logan Brothers, Mustangs Brothers, Beenleigh Juniors and Browns Plains), while Mustangs Brothers, Springwood and Greenbank have entered into the Under-20 South competition this year.

Southside 2 teams, Logan Brothers and Slacks Creek will kick off their seasons on March 13.
