Pull on the gloves

TV’S, video players, disposable nappies, plastic drink bottles, paint tins and toxic waste.

These are just a few of the things which were cleaned up from around Greenbank’s Ison Park during last year’s Clean Up Australia Day.

With Clean Up Australia Day just around the corner again, residents are being urged to jump on board to help clean up their areas.

Leading the call is Greenbank resident, Julie Lawson, who organised last year’s Ison Park clean up, and is back at the helm again this year.

“It was fabulous,” she said about last year’s efforts.

Ms Lawson and her helpers cleared about six cubic metres of rubbish and recyclables from Ison Park and surrounding areas, including the creek.

“There was so much rubbish. There were paint tins, toxic rubbish, a lot of construction rubbish,” she said.

And while a lot of Logan’s parks might seem clear of rubbish, this often isn’t the case.

“When you start looking you can see it,” Ms Lawson said.

Ms Lawson said last year’s event drew about 25 people, many of who were families, and she hoped to see even more people this year.

“There will be a barbecue for the volunteers from about 12pm, and we have also got certificates and giveaways,” she said.

There will also be free popcorn and snowcones available on the day, and all the necessities will be provided.

“I hope the wider community will get involved,” Ms Lawson said.

• The Clean Up Australia Day at Ison Park, Ison Road, Greenbank, will run from 10am to 2pm on March 7, and all are welcome.
