Weight loss secrets revealed

WHEN Annette Sym saw a picture of herself when she weighed 100kg, she said it was like a slap across the face.

INSPIRATION: Annette Sym has launched her sixth low-fat cookbook.

WHEN Annette Sym saw a picture of herself when she weighed 100kg, she said it was like a slap across the face.

“I thought to myself ‘you know what, I don't think the dieting is working',” she said.

Nearly two years later, she had lost 35kg, and has kept it off for the past 18 years.

What's more, she also created, wrote and self published six low fat cookbooks which have gone on to sell more than three million copies.

She was in Logan recently to launch her latest cookbook, and The Reporter sat down with her to chat about her weight loss secrets.

“I know there are people out there who are really struggling,” Mrs Sym said.

“I was always looking for the easy answer, I tried hypnosis, shakes, pills (but nothing worked).

“People want it (weight loss) to be easy, they try crazy diets or they take away food groups.

“It's not realistic long term.”

A diet low in fat and regular exercise helped Mrs Sym to lose her excess weight, and she admitted that although she doesn't love cooking, she does love the experience of eating good food.

She said she had spent countless hours in her kitchen creating different recipes and working out ‘what goes well with what', and she was passing on many of her weight loss secrets as well.

“Losing weight is all about learning what triggers you have with food, breaking bad habits and then reprogramming your thinking to create new and positive habits that allow you to make healthier lifestyle choices,” she said.

“I get in there in my kitchen and I cook up a storm. I love creating recipes.

“I thought, I could just give you another cookbook, or I could give you all my secrets too.”

The Reporter has two signed copies of Annette Sym's new cookbook, Symply Too Good To Be True 6 , to giveaway.
