Have your say on flood management

DO you have an opinion on how flooding and stormwater management could be improved?

If so, Logan City Council is keen to hear from you.

City roads infrastructure committee chairperson, Councillor Ray Hackwood (Division 12), said council had developed a proposal for how it might implement the State Government's new planning policy and the new Healthy Waterways guidance, but wanted community feedback to guide the future direction.

“Council has released the draft policies for stormwater, overland flow and flood plain management on its website for public feedback,” he said.

“We want to hear from people about what they consider to be best management practices for flooding and stormwater management.

“It is important that this document provides clarity and achievable standards to developers and the community with regards to stormwater, overland flow and flood plain management, so community input is essential.”

Cr Hackwood said council would be hosting meet the officer sessions for people wanting more information.

Meet the officer sessions will be held on October 14, from 3pm to 5pm and on October 28, from 3pm to 5pm at Logan Brothers (behind the Logan Entertainment Centre).

In addition to the open houses, council invites members of the community to join some of their stormwater, flooding and development assessment officers on a short tour to inspect examples of different approaches to stormwater management.

Anyone interested in joining the inspection should contact Deonie Allen at council on 3412 4584 or email deonieallen@logan.qld.gov.au.

Two inspection tours will be held on October 7 and 21, from 3.30pm, leaving from Logan Brothers.

For more information about the open houses, tour or stormwater, overland flow and flood plain management policy visit www.logan.qld.gov.au under ‘Have Your Say'.

Council will be accepting feedback on the policy direction until Friday, November 5.
