THE recent completion of the Muchow and Moffat Roads intersection has been welcomed by residents.
Situated near the busy Marsden State High School, a new roundabout has replaced the former intersection, and has been heralded as being “much safer” by the local Councillors Graham Able and Phil Pidgeon.
“The original proposal was for traffic lights,” Cr Pidgeon said, adding it had then been decided that a roundabout would be the safest option.
“The real problem (in the area) is with cars speeding down the road.
“You took your life in your own hands using the (former) intersection.”
Cr Pidgeon said the upgrade had included a re-alignment of the local roads and the relocation of existing services including underground trunk gas mains, water mains and underground phone lines.
Cr Able said at the end of the day the upgraded intersection was a good result for the community.
“It was a little pain for long term gain,” he said.
“All the local residents were very supportive of it.”
The $1.46 million project was initiated by Logan City Council's traffic section, and was completed in early August.
