THE Commonwealth Games are quickly approaching, but 21-year-old Shailer Park resident Lance Coassin is already a medal winner in a similar competition – for music.
The former Chisholm Catholic College student won two gold and one silver medal in an event touted as the “Olympics for entertainment”.
Instead of athletes, the World Championships of Performing Arts had models, dancers, singers and musicians from 52 different countries vying for gold.
Coassin was picked out by a talent scout during one of his local performances, to become one of the 20 performers in the Australian team to fly over to Los Angeles for the competition.
Back at home and with medals in hand, the singer/songwriter said he was “very humbled” by his selection for the team.
“It was my first time overseas so it was a big culture shock,” he admitted.
While he said he was not ready to relocate to the city of celebrity just yet, he would like to make a long-term career out of his music.
“Obviously everyone wants to take it to the top,” he said.
And he might just have his chance - Coassin has already been asked to return to the championships next year, which will once again have scouts from major record labels like EMI and Sony acting as judges.
