Rovers left stunned as Beenleigh gets relegated

ROCHEDALE Rovers late season woes continued on Saturday night with the Premier League giants going down to Brisbane City 1-0 in its final home and away clash.

The Rovers will need to regroup and refocus in time for tonight's (Wednesday) qualifying final clash with Brisbane Wolves at Underwood Park.

The Rovers will also feature in this year's Canale Cup grand final, to be played against Capalaba on Sunday at Perry Park.

The Rovers qualified after defeating Division 2 side Albany Creek 5-0 in the semi-finals.

After starting the season with so much promise, Beenleigh's return to the Veto Premier League has lasted just one season.

The Lions will return to Premier Division 1 next year, pending on if Division 1 side University of Queensland is accepted to compete in the Premier League next season.

With Mount Gravatt upsetting Pine Hills, there was no way the Lions could avoid relegation, but that didn't stop the Chris Green Park outfit from giving their all against finals-bound Olympic.

The Lions saved their best to last, challenging Olympic in a 90-minute epic, before going down 4-3 on Saturday night.

Meanwhile Slacks Creek finished their Division 1 campaign off on a good note, defeating Queensland Lions 4-2 at Luxury Paints Stadium on Sunday.

Second-half goals to Jai Ingham, Craig Burchell and Asa Harrington ensured the Tigers would finish the season with a win, but the victory was not enough to grant them a finals berth.

Division 2 newcomers Loganholme held off a spirited Oxley to sneak into the top-four.

Down 2-0 at the break, Oxley clawed the deficit back to one goal with a second-half goal, but with a playoffs spot on the line, the Lightning would not be denied recording a tense 2-1 win at Dunlop Park on Sunday.
