KING of the Rink is no ordinary competition.

ALL READY: (L-R) Michael Uwins, 18, Jayden Dat, 9, Corey Brindle, 11, Dylan Bock, 12, Dylan Day, 12 and Ethan Briggs, 19 gearing up for the King of the Rink which is a major fundraiser for the West Logan Hockey Club.

KING of the Rink is no ordinary competition.

Just ask the tournament's coordinator Jayne Uwins.

"This is like a normal hockey game, times by 10 in intensity," Ms Uwins said.

"It's a full-on weekend of fast-paced hockey action so you have got to be super-fit to play."

Hosted by West Logan Inline Hockey Club, King of the Rink is a modified version of inline hockey with the introduction of less players and no stoppages making it a more skilful and explosive spectacle to watch.

With more than 300 games to be played over 27 hours across three consecutive days, and no breaks between matches, Ms Uwins said the event had captured the attention of inline hockey clubs across the state.

"Initially King of the Rink only had about 14 teams and they were all juniors," she said.

"We started it as a lead-up event for the junior season but the seniors absolutely loved it so much they wanted to be involved.

"The next year we invited them and it has snowballed from there."

King of the Rink was first held in 2008 and last year the tournament hosted 306 games and attracted a record 47 teams.

Thanks to some sponsorship dollars from Digi Roller Skating and Skate Queensland, Ms Uwins was confident they would get 50 teams competing this year with players from as far as Cairns signed up.

"It's a brilliant event and everyone has a ball and can't wait for the next one," she said.

"It's one of those tournaments where once you have a look you just can't help but want to play."

And the best thing you don't have to pay to watch.

"Last year we had people drop in to have a look and they couldn't believe what they were seeing," Ms Uwins said.

King of the Rink will be staged at Digi Roller Skating Rink, located at 44 Johnson Rd, Hillcrest, on Friday, March 2, to Sunday, March 4.
