A SCHOOL spirit video, which features all of John Paul College's students and staff singing and dancing together, has become a YouTube hit with more than 35,000 clicking to watch the short clip.

A spirit video, which is a popular American high school tradition that shows off a school's spirit, is now starting to catch on in Australia, with John Paul College one of a handful of schools in Queensland to have made their own video.

Students from Kindergarten up to grade 12 all featured in the three minute video that took two days to film, all choreographed to the song, In your light, by Gotye.

The camera follows the students around the school from their classrooms to the library, gym, swimming pool and football field showcasing their academic and sporting accomplishments.

Senior theatre students Andy Strudwick and Christine Tromp said being involved in the spirit video was one of the best things they ever did.

"It was really fun and I enjoyed the whole process because we had never done anything like this before, and probably never will again," Andy said.

"It was exciting being on the set because we felt like movie stars," Christine said.

"It was a really good opportunity for everyone because everyone in the school got to be in the video and not everyone in the school is used to that experience of being in front of the camera, but everyone danced and sung along and had a great time."
