MURWILLUMBAH residents can pride themselves on having saved 1500 lives in seven months simply through blood donations.

Red Cross Blood Service community relations officer Stephanie Allen said Murwillumbah was a favourite stop for nurses on the Gold Coast blood donor mobile.

"Murwillumbah people are so generous, we hardly even have to advertise here, it's one of the best sites we have," Ms Allen said.

"In any four-day stint we might take around 200 litres.

"A lot of people have been donating for 30 years.

"But we also have a lot of young donors which is great because our older donors often end up with health complications that stop them from donating."

Since September 2011 the Gold Coast blood donor mobile has visited Murwillumbah every three months and in that time has collected more than 500 bags of blood.

There are just over 250 people registered on the Murwillumbah blood donor panel.

More than 60 people were registered to donate blood in Murwillumbah yesterday. The donor mobile will be in Knox Park, Murwillumbah, today and tomorrow in Salt on Monday March 19, and at the Pines Shopping Centre from Wednesday March 21 to Friday March 23.
