Coach puts 'acid' on older brigade: Captain

AUSSIE RULES: Some players in Maroochydore's line up remember a time when beating old foes the Noosa Tigers was a near-impossible task.

But it was last year when the tide turned, as the Roos went on to knock off their northern rivals four times on the trot.

They will shoot for five straight at Maroochydore Multisports Complex today (2pm), but captain Josh Norman is still wary.

"You never really know what you're going to come up against until you get on the field because the teams change so much up here every season,” he said.

"A few of the boys like Jack Gale remember what it was like to lose to them ... but we're a lot more confident now.”

And they have every reason to be.

Maroochydore has 66 senior players on its books this season, but only 22 can fit into each squad.

And with new coach Andrew Cadzow implementing what's been described as a "Victorian” style of coaching, the Roos are feeling good heading into round three.

"All the right ideas were in place and (former coach) Brett (Maloney) was pushing in the right direction but a fresh face is good and he's put the pressure on the playing group to do the right thing and hold their spots,” he said.

"He's really put the acid on a few olders blokes to set the example.”

Caloundra, the other Sunshine Coast-based team in the new 10-team QFA Division 1 competition, will host last year's QFA North champions Mayne at North St (2pm).
