HEARTBROKEN mother Rachel Noll will spend her Easter planning the funeral of her 15-year-old son Utah who died after being hit by a vehicle at Withcott.

The close-knit family was shattered when Utah died on the side of the Warrego Hwy after being accidentally struck by a four-wheel drive at 9.15pm on Thursday.

Ms Noll, 35, yesterday said her son was happiest spending time with his Helidon family including siblings Lohn, 17, Ashley, 16, Sapphire, 11, and Tyson, 10.

"He absolutely loved being with the family. He was just a really happy-go-lucky kid. He was my best mate," she said.

"Utah was a diamond in the rough. He loved going bush, camping and going to the beach to swim and fish."

Utah, who was living in Toowoomba, had spent Thursday visiting his mum in Helidon.

A woman was driving Utah and two other youths home to Toowoomba on Thursday night when the accident happened.

Sergeant Howard Glass of Helidon police said Utah became unsettled and agitated in the car.

Sgt Glass said the woman driver pulled over and tried to calm him down. However, Utah got out of the car and was accidentally hit by a Nissan Pathfinder on the westbound lanes.

The 4WD contained a family travelling to New South Wales for Easter.

Bystanders, Sgt Glass and paramedics performed CPR on Utah, but he had sustained critical injuries and died.

Utah was in Year 10 at Toowoomba State High School Wilsonton campus.

He turned 15 last Sunday.

Ms Noll, who practises kung fu, said Utah also shared her passion.

"He loved Muay Thai kickboxing. I taught all my kids how to fight," she said.

Utah had planned to join the army when he was older.

He also loved muscle cars which his grandfather used to buy, restore, and sell.

Ms Noll said her son's unique name became the first registered Australian-born Utah.

"He was one of a kind. He will be sadly missed and was taken too soon."

Police will prepare a report for the Coroner.
