IT STARTED out as a simple idea involving family and friends, and now it's expanded to involve all of Toowoomba.

Kim Cahill has lived in Toowoomba her whole life and her family has been in the Darling Downs since the mid 1800s.

She has a passion for the region and a desire to be involved in the community.

It was a combination of these that gave her the idea to start to Toowoomba and Darling Downs Facebook page.

The page started five weeks ago and focuses on connecting with people, places, events, food and businesses in the region.

She features profiles of every-day people who make Toowoomba what it is, including small business owners, parents and young people.

The page also features different events, places and businesses.

Mrs Cahill said she was able to meet so many amazing new people.

"I looked at all the elements that make up the community and decided to put it all together to share it with everyone,” she said.

"There are outlets out there specifically for news, but this isn't about news, it is about getting to know our residents.

"People love reading about other people and feeling as if they can relate. The profiles we feature are about real people, not the rich, not the fancy, just every-day, down-to-earth residents.

"The aim of the page is to inspire people and connect them. So many people are making new friends and connections. Small businesses are even collaborating together.

"The page is absolutely beautiful and it has gone beyond my wildest expectaions. If we can help the community continue to grow that is an wonderful thing.”
