Supermarket gets behind Legacy cause this Anzac Day

LEGACY has called on Australians to show their support for veterans and their families by buying a rosemary badge at Woolworths stores.

The supermarket chain said all proceeds from the nationwide fundraising initiative will support Legacy's ongoing work in providing advocacy, educational, financial and mentoring assistance to families of veterans who have suffered traumatic physical or mental injury or who have died serving Australia.

Woolworths will also donate 50c from every bunch of rosemary sold in store between 18 and 26 April.

Customers can also add a donation to the collection units in stores.

Commenting on the Woolworths fundraising efforts, Chief of the Defence Force and National Patron of Legacy Australia, General David Hurley said the fundraiser supports vital work in caring for the families of defence force personnel who have given their life or their health for the nation.

"I encourage all Australians to support the sale of Legacy merchandise that is only available in Woolworths stores nationwide," he said.

Tjeerd Jegen, Managing Director of Woolworths Supermarkets and Petrol said Woolworths was delighted to help customers support Legacy.

"I encourage our customers to buy a rosemary badge and show your support of our veterans and their families," Mr Jegen said.

In addition to the rosemary badge, fundraising merchandise available for purchase now are:

  • 'Lest We Forget' Rosemary badge - $5
  • 'Lest We Forget' Camouflage pen - $5
  • 'Lest We Forget' Camouflage wristband - $3

All donations, big or small, will make a difference to those in need:

  • $20 - Provides a day outing for a dependent with a disability
  • $55 - Installs a personal response unit in an elderly widows' home
  • $100 - Assists a family with heating for the winter
  • $150 - Provides essential dental health for children
