What is Senator Brandis hiding away in his diary?

THE Prime Minister declared that he can't work with the new ACTU secretary Sally McManus, after her frank admission that, when it comes to workers' rights, unjust laws may need to be disobeyed.

As Federal Attorney-General, Senator George Brandis is Australia's "First Law Officer”, responsible for the administration of justice and the minister in charge of the Freedom Of Information Act.

Nearly three years ago, after controversy over slashing of funding for community legal aid services, Labor's Shadow Attorney-General Mark Dreyfus made a simple FOI request for parts of the Attorney-General's diary. Senator Brandis rejected the request.

It is now more than a year since Senator Brandis was told by the Administrative Appeals Tribunal that he must produce the diary and six months since he lost a subsequent appeal at the Full Court of the Federal Court.

Many thousands of the public's money has been spent obstructing the FOI request.

Is it not a matter of principle FOI laws in this country should be respected?

Mark Dreyfus is preparing to take the case back to the Federal Court to seek an order that the diary request be processed on a deadline. If the order is granted and Senator Brandis fails to comply, he will be in contempt of the Federal Court.

Just what is Senator Brandis hiding away in his diary?

What utter contempt and disregard for the rule of law by the very person who is charged with upholding it.

How can the Prime Minister work with an Attorney-General with such disrespect for the rule of law?
